Math
Our 4th and 5th graders will be using the Everyday Math curriculum. Students have textbooks that they can refer to, math journals that they use daily, and homework from the Home Link books. They will be playing fun math games that help reinforce learning! Our 6th graders will be using the Big Ideas curriculum in math this year. We will be using other resources as supplemental material.
Reader's Workshop
Every day we will be focusing on a skill, as well as a mini-lesson relating to fluency, vocabulary, and phonics. Students will also be put in smaller groups for guided reading. We will also be doing literature units. We will be using Performance Coach books and other Coach Digital books as supplemental material.
Writer's Workshop
We will be working on various writing units this year during Writer's Workshop. Some examples of writing pieces include persuasive essays, personal narratives, nonfiction reports, and literary essays. We will be writing for an extended period of time to build our writing stamina!
Spelling
We will be using Trophies and Spelling Connections as a tool for practicing spelling lists this year. Students will be assigned new spelling words every other week, and will practice words using a multi-sensory approach everyday.
Vocabulary
Students will be getting new vocabulary lists twice a month. We will be using the Sadlier curriculum to practice and learn new words.
Science
Our 4th and 5th graders will be using Discovery Education website and National Geographic website as a tool and resource that support the district science curriculum. Sixth graders will be using the Savaas Elevate curriculum with Discovery Education as a supplemental resource.
Social Studies
The 4th graders will be using Savaas My World Social Studies curriculum with BrainPop and other resources to supplement and support the district social studies curriculum. The 5th and 6th graders will be using History Alive! curriculum as part of their social studies instruction. They will have access to the textbook and the Interactive Student Notebook (ISN) on the website.
